The Tamil Nadu government has said that all government and private offices will have to function only with 50% capacity as the state government has announced revised lockdown guidelines that will be in force from 4 am of May 6 to 4 am of May 20 in view of increasing Covid-19 infections in the state.

Tamil Nadu government on Friday issued a fresh set of guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state. According to the new rules, E-pass registration, which was mandatory for inter-state and international passengers, is now mandatory for inter-district passengers as well from May 17. Grocery, vegetable, meat and other shops, which were allowed to operate till noon, can now function from 6 am to 10 am only. 50 per cent occupancy will continue to be in force in these shops. Pavement shops selling perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, which were allowed to function till noon, are now prohibited. Similarly, tea shops are also not allowed to operate. E-commerce services will be permitted to operate from 2 pm till 6 pm.

ATMs, petrol pumps, pharmacies, and other natural medicine stores will function as usual. The full lockdown on Sundays and the night curfew will continue to be in force. In view of a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Tamil Nadu government.. All other shops, other than grocery and vegetable shops will remain closed. The big format shops in an area of 3,000sq ft and above, shopping complexes and malls have already been prohibited to function since April 26 onwards. The grocery and vegetable shops in shopping complexes and malls are also not permitted.

As per the order issued by the state government on Monday, the state government/public sector undertakings-run outlets will be permitted between 8am and 12 noon, while pharmacies, supply of milk and other essential services will continue as usual. Take away service alone will be permitted in all restaurants, hotels, bakeries, and mess from 6am to 10am, 12 noon to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm. Tea shops will be permitted to operate till 12 noon. The government also prohibited social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/festival gathering in open and closed spaces. Cinema theatres will remain shut.
